My name is Shannon. I am in my late 20′s, I have a baby daughter named Naomi, and my husband and I make our home in Ontario, Canada. I follow the nutritional teachings of the Weston A. Price Foundation.
I’m into a lot of things, but for the purposes of this blog, the things that matter most are food sourcing, green living, and traditional food preparation. I created this blog to be a chronicle of my family’s real food journey, to create accountability for myself for my food-related goals, and to share NT-inspired recipes I create based on old (but new-fangled) favourites in our home.
Why this title? My header photo is a sample of what’s on my kitchen counter bubbling and brewing away right now – a little piece of what might have been on a kitchen counter once upon a time, before industrialized food. I have a particular interest in the art and science of fermented foods. Check out my Urban Fermentation Project for more details.
Our dream is to live a simple life, hopefully on some land some day so we can grow a large vegetable garden, and keep chickens for meat and eggs. We also hope to help our children reach their full genetic potential through a nutrient-dense diet!!
Join us as we make a mess, while attempting to follow a nutrient dense diet on a tight budget! Please feel free to email me at onceuponthekitchencounter AT gmail DOT com, or leave me a comment – I would love to hear from you!!
